It must be love!

CC did his part today! He mopped, did the dishes, cleaned the dining room, and cleaned the tub.  Like a little child he asked, "Am I done, can I go play?  Dutch is coming over."  AND...like that he was free.  Now, I sit and enjoy the peace and quite in my clean house!
(Oh, how I adore him!)

Lunch is in the crock-pot...speaking of lunch...it must be love because I actually cooked the turkey burger!

Something you might not know about me is--I do not eat red meat or pork products.  I haven't since I was 12.  I became so obsessed with raw products I stopped eating anything especially if I had to touch it.  (Even thinking about it now is grossing me out.)  CC has ALWAYS cooked our meat products--even purchasing them is on his chore list.  The thought...eeewwwe.  It is truly love!

Loves and hugs....Hurry come quick, my house is clean!

Holidays

Hmm...it's 7:55 PM and we skipped church.  Why is it the one time of year when we should feel love and joy all we do is feel stress and worry?

Today, we drove to five different stores shopping for everyone and couldn't find a thing!  Why oh why do we do this to ourselves?

Because...we love each other and the thought of spending an entire day with my husband is worth the stress!  Shopping at all the 'big box' stores, making turkey dinner and a potluck dish for CC, and spending the afternoon with my man is worth all of it!

Loves and hugs...lazy days with my hubbers are the best!

Slack Attack

My, my the slacking on my blog might be over!  After reviewing my posts...they have been few and far between, sorry.

(New Orleans, 2010)

It's a three day weekend...what are we doing?  Answer: Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.  CC is not excited--oh, but I am!   There are a few items in my life that need a good cleansing--perhaps a campfire to burn some old paperwork, nothing better than some flames for a fresh start.

Loves and Hugs--I hope your weekend is productive as ours.

Snow+Commute

Blah...it's snowing, I mean really snowing.  I was in West Jordan today and it took 2 hours to commute home.  Seriously, Utahans...do you not know how to drive in the snow?  We have the 'greatest snow on earth" and we cannot even handle a little weather.
(November 2010)

Speaking of commuting...starting Monday I will be carpooling with CC.  In all of our years together we have NEVER worked so close to each other and the same schedule.

Loves and hugs...spending time with CC is my favorite (ask me how it goes after a month...hopefully, we both survive.)

I Know!

Alright...I know I should be doing homework...but when there is a blog to update what do you do?  Well, if you are Erin, you procrastinate as long as possible and occupy yourself with plenty of mindless tasks, i.e. FB.

For thanksgiving Cory and I took a cruise for the Western Carribean!  The weather was great and so was the company, thanks Shane and Zak.

Like vs. Do Not Like

Blogging is great, the fact that you have a voice and people can either choose to read or not, I love it!

With that said...

Just because I share with my opinion with you about something, does not mean that I like or do not like it.  My motto is more about love and acceptance.

Loves and Hugs- If your opinion is different than mine, I still love you!

Make a Difference

The Starfish Story
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one."

Loves and Hugs--Let's be that person!

One Hundred

I have rambled and babbled one hundred times. To who--the universe...even now after one hundred posts I still wonder...

Tonight, I am sitting in my 'new' formal living room reading a bible study, wrapped in a blanket with my upright heater by my side and a quote that I needed to hear jumped off the page.

"See your enemies, not as God's failures, but as God's projects." Max Lucado

At first I thought, "Is that condescending?", then, "Should I have enemies?", and then, "Ohhhhh." I realized...Erin, you need to open your heart.

Loves and hugs...that's all I have to say about that...at least tonight.

C-Ya

Still no pictures.

I officially broke up with my cell phone provider. (My old carrier had a 'dash' in the name if you were wondering.) They have dropped one to many calls and pushed one to many buttons--pun intended! In fact, Friday I was talking to CC about exciting things and we dropped our call three times. Same day, I was talking to my friend about something important and dropped her call twice. The icing on the cake was today, I was texting my friend and completely lost service. NO MORE!

Loves and hugs--Can you hear me now?

Chilly---Chili

It's fall. Fall is welcomed--but--it's sad because it means winter is next.

Today, we spent the morning in our toasty warm bed until noon. It was far to cold to be out in our house--we are holding out as long as we can before we turn on our heater.

After our annoying grocery shopping trip we made Chili for the Chilly day. Annoying, because I HATE grocery shopping and for some reason today, I had to go to the 'Big Box' store and every weirdo was out in full-force. What happened to the general population using Sunday as a day of rest? Instead, they infringed on our time and routine. Like I said--ANNOYED.

Now, we are home cuddled up in our freshly rearranged family room watching Bridget Jone's Diary, updating my blog, and ready to take a nap.

Loves and hugs! That's all for now.

It is well...

25. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27. Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life."

A quick thought...

(Tootsies at the Beer Fest 2010--DD)
You know the old saying "another nail in the coffin?" Well, tonight I was updating CC on a story about my last week's post.  I said, "is it bad if you are the one adding the nails?" Then I thought, well at least I am part of the creation and not just buying a cheap pine box!

Operation Re-Decorate

A few weeks ago, I decided…we should switch the furniture from downstairs to upstairs.

My Reasoning
1. We will have more privacy
2. Chica will not be able to bark at the people walking outside
3. We will utilize more of our furniture
  a. Chime Clock
  b. Sewing Machine
  c. Tiered Table
  d. Red Rocker
  e. Ikea Couch
   f. 1970s Table
  g. Big Butt Chair
  h. More to come…
4. The likely hood of me answering the door is minimized
5. And…I can scrub my walls, dust all the furniture…it will be perfect…half a day at most

What I did not realize
1. Our basement is so small that it is difficult to move large times up and down stairs
2. I cannot help in any way shape or form to move large furniture
3. Two stressed out people should error on the side of caution before embarking on this daunting task
4. We would get too wrapped up in a project to stop and take a lunch break
5. Now I need to go shopping

CC called for help, Shane on the Corner. The challenge of moving a sectional and an oversized couch was an armful.  They had to take the legs off the couch, take the railing off the stairs, and remove a door. These macho men are amazing and I apperciate all of their help!

Now the rest of the work is mostly mine, adding decorations, washing curtains, painting a couple of walls, and move a few smaller items. Even with the project ¾ of the way finished I love the new look. It was a fresh/needed change!

Loves and Hugs! CC gets an A+ for pleasing me on my whims.

What do you get when...

Hmmm...What do you get when you  have a bad week, professionally I mean?  Well, devoted readers...what you get is a LAZY Erin.  She doesn't keep up-to-date on her bloggity-blog,  she  may or may not have went to bed at 7 PM one night this week, and maybe-just maybe she carried around her anti-anxiety medicine in her purse like it was her baby blanket.  Fortunately, it was not used...just there for security. I do not want my readers thinking I am a 'case' even though--sometimes it is true.

Even with a HORRIBLE week, we were still able to have a few things happen.
1-My adorable CC (like I own him...) is officially finished with SCHOOL.
2-He got an AWESOME Graduation present.
3-Took cupcakes to his work to celebrate.
4-I am absolutely in LOVE with my MFT Program.
5-CC went out for wings with one of his guy friends.
6-My Melissa is in town...fingers crossed she will have time for me.  If not, I will forgive her because she is rockin' her photog skills at a wedding.
7-CC went to his guy friends and did some guy thing in a shop or something.
8-I was able to stand up for myself--once--and it kind of felt good! (Could happen again...watch out world!)
9-Went to WY for my cousin's wedding.
10-Spent the day with my sister and Bugs!
11-Lectured CC about Green Tip 6 on the drive to Evanston.
12-I spent several days this week shedding a few tears on something that I shouldn't have!
13-Spoiled Chica!
14-Made the decision to re-arrange the furniture in my entire house. (Project starts tomorrow, wish me luck.)
15-Got my hair did.
16-Started to make some major decisions that should have been made a couple of years ago.
17-Prayed a ton for my SWEET friends that had medical procedures this week.
18-Visited with my mom and some girlfiends!
19-Had a good laugh with my friend in OR about my OCD tendencies and how I scrub my walls every year.  (Doesn't everyone do that?)
20-AND...LAST BUT NOT LEAST....UPDATED MY BLOG!

Tip 6: Drive with cruise control on the highway. BECAUSE: keeping a steady pace burns gas at a constant rate, which lets you drive as much as 10% farther on a single tank!

Loves and Hugs-Please pray for a better week next week.  I do not think my soul can take another week of this!

Fire

Tip 5: Build a fire with an artificial, petroleum-free log made from wood fibers and biowaxes.  BECAUSE: Man-made logs, surprisingly, burn longer than wood and emit 75% less carbon monoxide.

Car Wash

Day 4: Scrub down your wheels at a car wash, not at home, BECAUSE: A drive-through uses less than half the water per car than the typical do-it-yourselfer--and many establishment recycle their soap water.

I had no idea they recycled their soap water...now that I know some establishments do that we will seek them out.  I encourage you to do the same!

Soy

Burn Soy Candles...choose natural soy candles over petroleum-based paraffin.  BECAUSE: Paraffin emits 11 toxins; soy doesn't.

HOWEVER: Please be careful anytime you burn candles; BECAUSE:

• 38 percent of home candle fires start in
bedrooms, and cause 35 percent of
associated deaths.***

• More than half of all candle home fires
start because the candle was too close to
a combustible material.  Candle fires often
start when items like mattresses, bedding,
curtains, cabinetry, or furniture are
ignited.***

• Unsupervised children are involved in 20
percent of home candle fires.***

• The number of home fires the American
Red Cross has responded to has risen
10% since 2000.*

For more Preparedness Tips please visit my friends at the Red Cross: www.redcross.org/homefires.

Loves and Hugs...Really...I do not like candles...and that's a fact!

Day 2

Something green day 2--Tighten your gas cap until it clicks three times.  BECAUSE: Each year in the US, 147 million gallons of gasoline literally evaporate into the atmosphere because of loose, damaged, or missing caps.

30 Days

Lately it seems all my fun new tips are from magazines...which is interesting because I only read them at the pretty parlor.  For the next 30 Days we are going to have a GREEN tip from Country Living!

Day 1: Return wire hangers to the dry cleaner. Because: More than 3.5 billion hangers reach landfills each year, amounting to 200 million tons of steel that could be put to new use.
Loves and Hugs--This is going to be a great 30 days!--Let's 'GO GREEN' together!

Winter is coming…

You know winter is on the way when…

*The leaves are changing
*It gets dark earlier
*When you have to leave the front porch light on in the morning
*Next week all your favorite shows are starting
      -Big Bang Theory
      -Glee
-Sister Wives—by the by—I know the husband on this show…chalk it up to living in UT.
      -Community
      -30 Rock
      -Too many to list…

Winter is my least favorite time in Utah and it seems to last forever—because it does! Do not be surprised if you hear more about the weather conditions as time progresses.

Loves and Hugs—I am dreading winter…any ideas how to get through the next 6 months?

How CC got his name!

Two years ago, I went out of town for a Chamber retreat, my friend needed a roomie so I volunteered. We had SO much fun…we each drank a bottle of champagne and as we were talking about my Cute Cory, we decided his nickname would be CC.  A couple of months later, we went to a ‘Come as You Aren’t’ party/fundraiser and our name card said Erin and CC Grey.  Since that day ,Cory is CC!
(Triumph Photo Shoot September 2010)
A fun fact about that night…CC dressed as Willy Wonka and won first prize!
(Cory and Erin--October 2008)
Loves and hugs—CC is the best nickname for him…sometimes it even stands for Cranky Cory.

Advice

Ok friends, I am developing a new concept for my blog—The 1st anniversary of my blog launch is around the corner and it needs a new direction! My friend Katie gave me a great idea! I have been thinking about it all weekend and this is what I have come up with…but I need to hear what you think about my ideas! Granted, I cannot promise that the blog will exactly follow the format but an E for effort is good enough, right!?!

A few months ago, I started graduate school in Marriage and Family Therapy. Going off the marriage theme this is what I am thinking…

Something old, something new,
Something borrowed, something blue green
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.
  • Something Old—a story from the past, ours, family, friends, history, etc…
  • Something New—an update on us, a new product, a new recipe, etc…
  • Something Borrowed—this is where I need your help…a story or something to be featured on MY blog
  • Something bl….green—an update on “Going Green”, organic, reusing, etc…
  • A silver sixpence in her shoe—upcoming adventures, traveling, visitors, cultural events, etc…
(Cabo, December 2009)
Seriously, I need your help, I never thought I would be a blogger…but here I am, your feedback is WELCOME! You can leave a comment or email me at greycoloroflove@hotmail.com.

Loves and hugs…This new direction is invigorating, I hope you like it too!

Forty--Eight

What do you get with:
2 Huge Crockpot’s,
2 Boxes of Tomatoes,
10 Onions,
2 Bundles of Cilantro,
16 Green Peppers,
20 Jalapeños,
20 Anaheim Peppers,
20 Super Chili’s
2 Thirty Something’s,
and...Eight Hours?

48 Jars of SALSA!!!!

Every Labor Day weekend the task at hand is to create a year's supply of SALSA! This tradition began eight years ago! Every so often...I am even crazy enough to do it two or three times in the month of September, it just depends on my friend's stockpile.

The first ritual in the process it to clean my house and the jars before the chopping begins.

Then, I recruit help--CC of course--and the chopping begins. My job is to blanch the tomatoes and peel them, then run them through the food processor--if you ask me this is the less glamorous job--it takes the entire time. CC's big task is to chop the peppers--oh my--and the ever dreaded onions. Once everything is settled we wait for two hours...then the canning can begin. This project takes about eight hours from start to finish.

The benefits though...are worth every minute...in December we have the luxury of garden fresh salsa!
Loves and Hugs---Yep, just call me Betty...Betty Crocker!

Peace

You know in life when you try to balance everything...and it rarely works? The past two years have been very trying times...we have had a few misfortunes...a few good times...and a few not so good times. We (I say we...hoping it's ok to speak for CC...which, I am sure it is!) have been praying to see what is in store for us. Right now we do not have a plan, and this causes anxiety for a "RED" personality, so...I am (literally) "Seeking Peace". This book is wonderful and frustrating at the same time. (Is that even possible?) The feelings are similar to how I felt when I read Eat, Pray, Love, how in the world I can I find myself when I do not have the resources that these wonderful women had?

I am trying to do my best...taking my favorite piece of advice from Eat, Love, Pray, "meditating is the act of listening to God." I do not think we take time to listen to God enough. So, let's seek peace together.
In Seeking Peace, Mary spoke about death she said, "The laughter is as much a part of the healing as the weeping." My Grandpa's funeral was a week ago tomorrow and our family had a wonderful time remembering him, drinking at his favorite watering hole, the VFW. Laughter is more important than the weeping!

Loves and Hugs---Let's always try to remember the good times!

Grandpa

My Grandpa Tom passed away last Tuesday. It was surprise for all of us. Yes, he was in assited living and he was struggling with his health for last two years, but still a shock. He was the funniest guy I have ever known, whether he was being spooked, flipping a 'bird', or calling his latest woman a heifer, we were fortunate to learn from him. Cory and Grandpa had a special relationship...when I lived with Grandpa (a story for another time) Cory would sit and talk with him for hours.
Miss you grandpa!

Polish

Do you paint your nails?
I have been experimenting for a few months on the best way to maintain the quality of polish. I have been able to maintain polish for up to 5 days! Monday, I was at the salon and waiting for my hair to dry and found an article with the easiest polish tip...soon you shall have this tip too...

Tip 1-Apply Nail Dehydrant--apply liberally--this takes the oil off the nail bed.
Tip 2-Apply base coat to the tip of the nail, then apply second coat to the entire nail--this reinforces the 'chip zone.'
Are you ready for the best tip ever????
Tip 3-After you polish and apply top coat--run nails under COLD water or use a bowl of ice water, this 'cures' the polish.
Loves and Hugs-Happy nail painting!

Love Language

Have you read the 5 Love Languages book by Dr. Gary Chapman? (The link is for the Love Language quiz.) About year four of our marriage CC and I (well, let's be honest, mostly me) read the book. We discovered that we were not speaking each other's love language. I would buy CC Happy Friday presents and he would in return give me a hug or kiss. In reality, all I wanted was a Happy Friday present and he would want a kiss. So...we switched...I know it sounds spoiled but... (yes, pretty much every week) I get a Happy Friday present! This week my "Happy Friday" present is a pedometer. The key to the love language of gifts is...there has to be thought in the present. He cannot just stop at the gas station and bring home something because he has forgot about me. (P.S. he has tried to pass this off a time or two.) It has to have thought about me in the process. So...here is the thought behind this week's gift. My work is doing a 10,000 step challenge, they sent us pedometers to track the increase of our steps...well....I might have been drinking...and it may have fell in the toilet. Needless to say, I have not been able to participate in the 10,000 step challenge since then. (I never shared this with anyone because I was embarrassed.) Now I am officially back in the game!

Loves and Hugs! Happy Friday's are my favorite day of the week! (And...sometimes I get my 'prize' on other days of the week...i.e. today is Tuesday!)

Heaven in Utah

Yep, there is actually a spot in Utah that I would consider heaven in Utah...Bear Lake. Today, I had a free minute to myself (while in Logan), I drove to Bear Lake, dipped my toes in the water, grabbed a raspberry shake, and headed home...to do...the ever dreaded homework.
Loves and Hugs...first visit to Bear Lake of the year! Fingers crossed for another trip...Sunday!

Tradition

Since I was a little girl, it was tradition to eat our birthday cake off a special plate...now that we are married we have continued that tradition. CC enjoyed his delicious German Chocolate Cake with Coconut Pecan Frosting on this plate!
My mom, LOVES to shop...one year for Christmas me and my sisters each got our own plate(You know I have three older sisters, right?)...truth be told...if I am having an especially bad day...I eat off it!

Tonight we are going to our favorite pub,Salt Lake Pizza & Pasta, after dinner German Chocolate Cake and French Vanilla Ice Cream (as usual, made by wifey). This thirty-something couple knows how to live the high life!

70th Post!

Can you believe I have had 70 things to yak about? In all reality, I am obsessed with my own blog, I visit my very own blog, at least, three times a day. Some might say I am a little narcissistic, but I wouldn't. LOL

Last night, after church (yes, we go to church at 7 PM, and LOVE it) we decided to go outside and read. I am currently reading, Eat Pray Love, I just finished the Pray section and I am totally ready for my chance to listen to God. Liz, yes, she is my good friend now, said that the act of meditating is listening to God. I never really thought about it...here I have been spending all this time talking to Him when I just need close my thoughts and listen. It explains a lot! :) Thanks Liz, I am going to take your advice and start listening!

In case you were wondering, while I was having a very important ah-ha moment, my beloved husband, CC, was reading a comic book. He actually, refers to them as Graphic Novels, but I call them cartoon stories, Tomāto Tomäto.

Hugs and Loves! Some people get enlightenment from true stories some from cartoons...who are we to judge?

Hoarder

There is a nook in my dining room, at this current moment, it has the essence that a hoarder my be present in our home. In actuality, we do, ME!

I am in LOVE with Pepsi throwback. Why in the world would anyone want to drink high fructose corn syrup? (However, I do prefer 'regular' coke, when I have a glass with my friend Jack, it just tastes better.) Reasons for the hoarding; it is only offered for a limited time, there is only one chain of stores that carries it, CC thinks he can drink as much as he wants, and it is healthier than soda with high fructose corn syrup.
This is what the Mayo Clinic has to say about it:
High-fructose corn syrup is a common sweetener and preservative. High-fructose corn syrup is made by changing the sugar (glucose) in cornstarch to fructose — another form of sugar. The end product is a combination of fructose and glucose. Because it extends the shelf life of processed foods and is cheaper than sugar, high-fructose corn syrup has become a popular ingredient in many sodas, fruit-flavored drinks and other processed foods.
